Saskatchewan Entrepreneur Category
The Saskatchewan Entrepreneur Category was formerly a business immigration pathway under the Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program - SINP. It allowed experienced entrepreneurs to establish, purchase, or partner in a business in Saskatchewan while working toward Canadian permanent residence.
However, this pathway is no longer open to new applicants.
Effective 27 March 2025, the Government of Saskatchewan permanently closed all SINP Entrepreneur and Farm immigration pathways. As a result, Saskatchewan is no longer accepting new Entrepreneur applications, no new Expressions of Interest are being considered, and no further Invitations to Apply will be issued under these pathways.
Halani Immigration Services Inc. provides professional guidance to entrepreneurs exploring active Canadian business immigration options. Our services are led by Shoukat Qumruddin Halani, RCIC-IRB, licensed by the College of Immigration and Citizenship Consultants - CICC under License No. R711322.
Is the Saskatchewan Entrepreneur Category Still Open?
No. The Saskatchewan Entrepreneur Category is permanently closed.
The official SINP page confirms that, effective 27 March 2025:
- No new applications will be accepted
- No new Expressions of Interest will be considered
- No further Invitations to Apply will be issued
- All Entrepreneur and Farm immigration pathways are permanently closed
This is an important update because many older websites still describe the Saskatchewan Entrepreneur Category as if it were available. Entrepreneurs should not rely on outdated summaries or old investment requirements when planning a Canadian business immigration strategy.
What This Means for Entrepreneurs
Entrepreneurs who were previously considering Saskatchewan must now explore other active provincial entrepreneur pathways. Depending on the applicant's background, investment capacity, business experience, language ability, and settlement goals, possible alternatives may include:
- BC PNP Entrepreneur Immigration
- Alberta Entrepreneur Immigration
- Manitoba Entrepreneur Pathway
- PEI Work Permit Stream
- Nova Scotia Entrepreneur Stream
- New Brunswick Business Immigration Stream
- Newfoundland and Labrador International Entrepreneur
- Yukon Business Nominee Program
- Northwest Territories Business Stream
Each province has different requirements for investment, net worth, business experience, language ability, location, job creation, active management, and permanent residence pathway.
Former Saskatchewan Entrepreneur Category - Historical Overview
Before its closure, the Saskatchewan Entrepreneur Category was designed for experienced entrepreneurs who wanted to establish, purchase, or partner in a business in Saskatchewan. The former pathway generally assessed factors such as business ownership or senior management experience, personal net worth, eligible business investment, Business Establishment Plan, active day-to-day management, ownership percentage, job creation (where required), intention to live in Saskatchewan, and business operation before nomination.
This information is now historical only. It should not be used to assess new applications because the program is permanently closed to new applicants.
Why Program Status Matters
Business immigration programs change frequently. A pathway that was available in the past may later be paused, restricted, replaced, or permanently closed. For entrepreneurs, relying on outdated information can lead to wasted time and planning costs, incorrect business strategy, misleading investment decisions, missed opportunities in other provinces, and poor alignment between business plans and current immigration rules.
Before selecting a business immigration pathway, applicants should confirm whether the program is active, whether intake is open, and whether their profile matches the current criteria.
Alternative Business Immigration Strategy
Although the Saskatchewan Entrepreneur Category is closed, entrepreneurs may still have options in other provinces and territories. A proper strategy should consider your business ownership or senior management experience; available investment amount; personal net worth and source of funds; preferred province or community; language ability; family settlement goals; industry background; whether you are open to rural or smaller communities; whether you can actively manage the business in Canada; whether the pathway leads realistically to nomination and permanent residence.
The best pathway is not always the province with the lowest investment requirement. The strongest case is usually the one where the applicant's experience, business concept, location, investment, and immigration requirements align clearly.
