AAIP Alberta Opportunity Stream (AOS)
Alberta's base (non-Express Entry) PNP stream for foreign workers currently in Alberta with a qualifying job offer in an eligible occupation. Doesn't require federal Express Entry pool eligibility — strong path for sub-cutoff CRS candidates.
What is AAIP Alberta Opportunity Stream (AOS)?
The AAIP Alberta Opportunity Stream (AOS) is Alberta's base (non-Express Entry) provincial nominee stream for foreign workers currently in Alberta. Designed for applicants who don't qualify for federal Express Entry but have qualifying Alberta employment.
Eligibility
To qualify for AOS:
- Currently working in Alberta on a valid work permit
- Have a full-time, indeterminate Alberta job offer in an eligible occupation (most TEER 0/1/2/3 occupations qualify; some TEER 4/5 also eligible for specific industries)
- Meet work experience requirements (12+ months in occupation typically)
- Meet language proficiency (CLB 5 for TEER 0/1; CLB 4 for TEER 2/3; some specifics by occupation)
- Meet education requirements (high school + occupation-specific training; some occupations need post-secondary)
- Meet wage criteria (typically at or above provincial median for the occupation)
- Demonstrate genuine intent to settle in Alberta
Process
- Be working in Alberta on valid work permit
- Receive qualifying job offer (or have ongoing employment)
- Submit AOS application directly to AAIP
- AAIP processes and nominates
- Submit federal PR application to IRCC (separate from Express Entry — base PNP federal process)
- COPR after federal admissibility check
Why AAIP AOS
- No federal Express Entry requirement — works for sub-CRS-cutoff candidates
- Direct path to PR without federal pool competition
- Lower application fee (CAD 500) vs OINP / BC PNP
- Open to TEER 2/3/4 occupations — broader than most Express Entry-aligned streams
Halani's note
AAIP AOS is one of the most accessible PNP pathways for college graduates and trade workers with Alberta employment. Common for Filipino caregivers, South Asian truck drivers, healthcare aides, and skilled-trade workers in Calgary / Edmonton.
