Alberta PNP — Permanent Residence Pathway
Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP)
The Alberta Advantage Immigration Program - AAIP is Alberta's provincial nominee program. It allows Alberta to nominate eligible foreign workers, Express Entry candidates, healthcare professionals, technology workers, rural-community candidates, tourism and hospitality workers, and selected priority-sector applicants for Canadian permanent residence.
Alberta is one of Canada's strongest provincial economies, with immigration opportunities connected to Calgary, Edmonton, Red Deer, Lethbridge, Medicine Hat, Grande Prairie, Fort McMurray, rural Alberta communities, and designated Rural Renewal communities.
In 2026, Alberta's AAIP nomination allocation is 6,403 nominations. As of Alberta's 29 April 2026 update, Alberta had issued 1,849 nominations and had 4,554 spaces remaining. Alberta also states that 2026 AAIP draws and nominations will prioritize key sectors such as health care, technology, construction, manufacturing, aviation, agriculture, and Rural Renewal communities.
Halani Immigration Services Inc. provides professional guidance for AAIP applications. Our services are led by Shoukat Qumruddin Halani, RCIC-IRB, a Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant licensed by the College of Immigration and Citizenship Consultants - CICC under License No. R711322.
How the Alberta PNP works: AAIP has two main categories. Worker Streams currently list four streams: Alberta Opportunity Stream, Alberta Express Entry Stream, Rural Renewal Stream, and Tourism and Hospitality Stream. These are for foreign workers who are living and working in Alberta, or who plan to live and work in Alberta. Entrepreneur Streams are covered on a separate Alberta Entrepreneur Immigration page and include Rural Entrepreneur, Graduate Entrepreneur, Farm Stream, and Foreign Graduate Entrepreneur.
Important 2026 AAIP updates: (1) Effective 7 April 2026, Alberta introduced a CAD $135 fee to submit a Worker Expression of Interest (WEOI). (2) Effective 1 April 2025, Alberta increased the application fee for AAIP worker streams to CAD $1,500. (3) Alberta introduced new Worker EOI fields in February 2026 to collect wage and hours-of-work information for candidates with Alberta job offers; WEOIs missing this information may not be considered in future draws where these factors are used. (4) Effective 1 January 2026, Alberta implemented Rural Renewal Stream changes including endorsement allocation limits for designated communities, a one-year validity period for endorsement letters, a TEER-based endorsement model, and a requirement that foreign nationals inside Canada have a valid work permit at application and assessment. (5) Up to 10,000 additional federal immigration spaces are available across PNPs for practice-ready physicians and Francophones - AAIP nominations issued in 2026 for qualifying physicians or Francophones under this initiative do not count toward Alberta's 6,403 regular nomination allocation.

Common eligibility themes — Alberta PNP
AAIP applications must be credible, complete, and aligned with Alberta's labour-market needs. Most AAIP worker-stream candidates must meet Alberta job offer and employer requirements.
Priority sectors under AAIP for 2026: health care, technology, construction, manufacturing, aviation, agriculture, and Rural Renewal designated communities. This does not mean every occupation in these sectors will automatically be selected - it means Alberta is managing its nomination allocation around provincial labour-market priorities.
Major Alberta cities and regional opportunities: Major Urban Centres (Calgary, Edmonton, Red Deer, Lethbridge, Medicine Hat, Grande Prairie, Fort McMurray); Regional and Rural Alberta (Brooks, Camrose, Cold Lake, Drumheller, Lacombe, Lloydminster, Okotoks, Olds, St. Paul, Taber, Wetaskiwin). For the Rural Renewal Stream, community designation and local endorsement are critical - the applicant should not only have a job offer, but also a realistic settlement plan for the designated community.
- Correct stream selection
- Valid Alberta job offer, where required
- Employer eligibility
- Wage and hours-of-work details
- Valid work permit, where required
- Language test results
- Education and ECA, where required
- Accurate NOC / TEER selection
- Work experience consistency
- Licensing or professional authorization, where required
- Genuine intention to live and work in Alberta
- Ability to become economically established in Alberta
