Frequently asked questions — Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) fees

What's the total PGWP fee I need to pay?
IRCC government fees: CAD $255 open work permit application fee. If biometrics are required (typically if not submitted within the previous 10 years), add CAD $85 biometrics fee. If a medical exam is required (typically for healthcare or childcare PGWP-intended occupations, or longer-than-6-month medical history requirement), add ~CAD $250. Most PGWP applicants pay CAD $255–$590 total in government and third-party fees. Halani's PGWP retainer is CAD $800–$1,200.
Do I have to pay for biometrics again if I already gave them for my study permit?
Generally not. Biometrics are valid for 10 years across most IRCC applications. If your biometrics were submitted for your study permit within the last 10 years and are still on file, you usually don't need to provide them again for the PGWP. IRCC's biometrics-validity webform shows whether you need to provide biometrics again for a specific application.
Is the PGWP fee refundable if my application is refused?
The PGWP application fee (CAD $255) is refundable if IRCC refuses the application. Biometrics and medical fees are paid to third parties and not refunded by IRCC. The fees are processed before the application is evaluated; refunds for refusals are processed automatically after the negative decision.
